I'd like to breed my mare to one of these stallions. I'm breeding to race regionally. I wanted to breed to Posse.....
The mare- Wheely Pink- she is 16h and light boned.

I have two Majestic City colts from his first crop . I like both . He has a lot of bone . I also like Zivo but you can't go wrong with City Zip . The one Colt I have looks like his Grandfather . I named him Lil Zip .

Thank you qb2dan! Do you have any pictures of your Majestic City foals? I talked to Kelly at Questroyal North, she said the MC passes on his nice demeanor and chrome. I love his pedigree. Chrome is bonus! My mare is an iridescent chestnut with a yellow spot. She is as shiny as a brand new penny.

this mare has no runners in her family... why are you breeding her to race? The distaff is a buncha cheap claimers with no ability. If you're going to breed, find a mare with some ability. Just my 2 cents.

Springboro- that wasn't the question that was asked, and you do not know my long term plans The mare's female family isn't deep, but there are runners and winners. She has a half sister that was graded stakes placed, black type winner of over $500,000. Another that was an allowance winner. You do not know my plans and I'm not going to explain them.

Hm. Maybe this one falls into that category, "if you have nothing good to say...."

In springboro's defense, this is a racing forum and if you were not breeding to race you could spend far less on any kind of stud fee and get a nice sport horse provided the mare has great conformation. So that assumption was made. It could be that the stallions you have chosen coupled with the mare you have presented just don't compel any kind of response. I glanced at it and could find nothing to remark on short of trying to dig in for a long haul of research.

Thank you Madelyn. I appreciate your comments, it was more diplomatically put. I understand this is a racing site. Some people breed to sell and some breed to race their own. Maybe when I have a mare that has a more substantial record I'll feel more confident about asking questions.

I see what you're trying to do, which is add a line of Hold Your Peace since that is the bloodline that contributed to the best runner in this family in generations. But City Zip and True Direction are not Speak John, and Zivo and Majestic City are not Thunder Puddles, and this mare is only likely to produce the kind of racehorse she was: very low-level claiming horses.

If you want to raise a baby, you can probably find a mare who is already in foal, and if you're willing to take on an older mare (14-15 or so) you can probably find one who has produced multiple winners. A quick Google of classified listings for NY-breds found this 2yo who is already registered and of racing age who will cost less than the vet bills and stud fee of Majestic City: https://www.equinenow.com/horse-ad-1145932 and the seller is willing to sell her and her in-foal dam (14yo) as a package.

It's not that the board is trying to rain on your parade...it's that, if you want to breed a racehorse who has a chance of not just winning, but even making it to the races, a foal out of Wheely Pink has a much lower likelihood of doing so than either the filly (who is already of racing age and sound) or her dam, who is a proven producer of winners, at a much higher cost.

Hi Nutmeg,
I took note of your mares dam and the stakes runners you mentioned that she's a 1/2 sibling to...Factual Number and Factual Contender. They were owned and bred by the late Carl Lizza, a top breeder/owner in NY at that time. Looking further Wheely Pink has Fred Hooper and Harbor View blood flowing around as well:>) With that in mind, when taking a shot at breeding a mare of this caliber, I like to reproduce some of the blood that could cause lightning to strike...for that reason I like Zivo. The foal would be inbred 4x4 to Fappiano, 4x5 to Tri Jet, 5x5x5 to Mr. Prospector and would possess the Rasmussen Factor (RF) 4x5 to Hail Proudly through full siblings Tri Argo and Triocala. I don't know if you are familiar with the RF, but it can be a potent breeding factor in this situation. Best of luck, TJ
