Ramsey to run a maiden in Belmont

Postby JCBloodstock » Fri Jun 03, 2005 1:43 pm

What is happening in racing - Ken Ramsey to run a maiden by Catienus to promote the ability of the sire because the colt ran second by a length and a half to a Lukas trained A.P Indy colt that's going in The Belmont - sad, sad, sad.

Ramsey likes to read about himself in the papers--and he's accomplishing that. Plus, he's getting a ton of publicity for his stallion. So unfortunately he's being rewarded for acting like an idiot.

Publicity on the stallion - give me a break - 26 yearlings last year averaged $4100 - if he want's publicity - start being more selective in breeding rather than just breeding the walk ins

The guy is just being all hyperactive because he has had some recent luck with horses like Kitten's Joy, Roses In May and Badge of Silver. Now that he is doing really well he thinks he can defeat the world. He will probably end up ruining some nice racehorses.
As for Catienus....he's just another Storm Cat. Not a Forestry, not a Tale of the Cat, not a Hennessy either. Just another.

I know its a little crazy to run a maiden in a grade 1 race. Especially in a 3YO race. Maybe you can get away with it in a 2YO race.

I dont think Ken has anything to lose here. If the horse gets beat then so what. If the horse runs 2nd or 3rd(highly unlikely) he has will get more prestige for the sire and of course, Ken Ramsey.

Catienus stands in NY, so any press this horse gets during Belmont week would help the bottom line for Ken Ramsey. This is free advertising/marketing ploy for Catienus this week. Nobody would be ever mention Catienus this week unless the Ramsey's put that maiden in Belmont Stakes.

Maiden runs third

Ramsey's maiden ran third in the Belmont. I did not figure he would run that well but the race for the most part was filled with horses who could not win a Grade II race so why not run for third place.

Well, now they have a Catienus colt that is classic placed.
