I'm doing some research on a lovely old photo that I recently acquired. Attached was the following press release: "Louisville, KY...."Flying Cadet" a sixty to one longshot in the Kentucky Derby, which is to be held on Churchill Downs May 6th." It's relatively old -- definitely pre-1945.
I've managed to locate "Model Cadet" (derby, May 7 -- not May 6 -- 1949) but on the Churchill Downs site where all derby entrants are listed since the beginning, there is NO "Flying Cadet" anywhere. I've also checked all the May 6th Derbies in the 30's or 40's -- no such horse. Did find a pix of Model Cadet though and he looks similar to the horse in the picture, although the latter is faded, making the legs more difficult to discern re: white stockings or not. But then the press release date of the KD would have to be wrong....
There is also no listing on this site.
Does anyone have any ideas or info or etc? Thanking you in advance! Abigail

Flying Cadet
TO Bill from WA --
Yup, I bet that's him! The guy I bought it from said that he dated it in the 1930's "sometime" so this sounds about right.
Thanks so much! That's really helpful. Abigail
