Bold Lad and Successor -- Bold Ruler--Misty Morn, by *Princequillo
What a Pleasure, Bold Queen, Bold Princess -- Bold Ruler--Grey Flight, by *Princequillo
War Relic, Speed Boat, War Kilt -- Man o' War--Friars Carse (champ 2yo filly), by Friar Rock
Citation -- Bull Lea--*Hydroplane II, by Hyperion (great English family)
Hyperion -- Gainsborough--Selene, by Chaucer. Hyperion's half sibs were no slouches either, being by Phalaris (*Sickle and *Pharamond II) and Hurry On (Hunter's Moon).

And my vote for the best-bred horse of all time -- *Meddler, by St. Gatien (Derby Stakes) out of Busybody (1000 Guineas and Oaks Stakes), by Petrarch (2000 Guineas and St. Leger Stakes). Busybody, in turn, was out of Spinaway (1000 Guineas and Oaks), by Macaroni (2000 Guineas and Derby) out of Queen Bertha (Oaks), who also produced Wheel of Fortune (1000 Guineas and Oaks).

Of course, you realize that there are any number of royally bred total flops out there.

You mean like ...

Shbakni (0 for 6) and Minden Rose (1 for 4) -- both Mr. Prospector out of Winning Colors

Danzig Colors (3 for 13) -- Danzig out of Winning Colors

Stormin Winnie (unraced -- okay, I'll give this one a break ... but find it amusing that the ONLY foal she has that went unraced was the Storm Cat 8)) -- Storm Cat out of Winning Colors

Of course, Winning Colors was by Caro (multiple graded winner) out of All Rainbows (multiple stakes winner and half to Chris Evert). All Rainbows, of course, being by Bold Hour (Futurity/Hopeful winner) and out of Miss Carmine (stakes winner) who was by T. V. Lark (stakes winner at 2-5)

She and Lady's Secret are a perfect example of mares sent continuously to the wrong stallions, just because they were top stallions. They were bred purely with the sales ring in mind and not with any thought as to a stallion that would work best and produce a runner.

Swaps---Khaled--Iron Reward by Beau Pere had many gears when a TB got close to him he had a higher gear and was long gone, Swaps set a few world records one at one mile and one sixteenth.

Bill Shoemaker was his jockey and Misch Tenny trainer, and Rex Ellsworth owner.

Spectacular Bid the gray ghost was another great TB he was by Bold Bidder---Stop on Red, by To Market.

I have a photo of SB that is signed by Bill Shoemaker, both SB and Shoe were super class. Thanks for the memories.

Okay, in Lady's Secret's defense, she was a Secretariat mare ... she SHOULD have hit with at least one of the "names" she was bred to and it's weird that she didn't.

As it is, hasn't the General Meeting been her best so far?

edit

Scratch that .. the GM hasn't started yet. Her best was one of the prospectors that went to Japan.

... and I'm going to hunt down and skin the person who jacked Lady's Secret's entry last month.
