Sharper Edge

Postby Bill from WA » Thu Jul 28, 2005 2:16 pm

Sharper Edge (2003) by Snowbound x Lady Hawkster by Hawkster is making his first lifetime start Friday in the 1st race at Emerald Downs. Maiden Claiming ($40,000), 5 furlongs. Morning line 6-1. I'm hoping he handles it OK, he's SOOO big, over 17 hands. He's been working pretty well, and is trained by Jim Penney, who also trains the world record holder, Sabretooth. Keep your fingers crossed for him. (It will be on TVG).

Bill,

Lady Hawkster has some similar breeding to my mare, Miss Arkansas. (Sired by Hawkster, with Raise A Native over Tourbillon lines on the bottom.)

I'll be at work so I'll miss the race, but you can bet my fingers will be crossed for Sharper Edge. Good Luck!

He ran an even race and placed 5th, back about 6 lengths from the winner. He has a long loping stride, and should go better long. He runs more like his mom than his dad. He should improve next out. The winner, by Charismatic, payed over $30 to win.

Bill I think this one, needs time to get in his pace, and more important
he need time for developing enough power, to makes his stride effective,
and with enough balance, since he,s just a big kid,
I hope he will stay sound long enough, to pay the owners rewordance
Bill VH couldn,t work because It was raining cats and dogs, for the last
couple of days with severe waterflooding.
Saturdays eve mid european time the sun started to shine again.

Stoney (Sharper Edge) broke his maiden this past weekend at Emerald Downs, winning the 6 furlong event by 4.5 widening lengths. Time 1:10.3. It was his 3rd lifetime start. He looks like a promising two-year-old.

Sharper Edge (Stony) is entered in the Captain Condo Stakes on Sunday Oct. 2nd at Emerald Downs. He drew the one hole, which I don't like, plus it's been raining, and I don't know how he will take to an off track. Guess we'll find out Sunday. 8-1 morning line. Keep your fingers crossed that the big grey kid does OK.

Hi all

Stoney broke very slow from the rail, the jockey took him to the outside where he made a good middle move and then tired in the stretch to finish 5th and pick up a $3000 check. He didn't handle the sloppy surface well at all, and was slipping around coming home. He's just sooo big that I don't think the off going is for him. If he gets a fast track next time...watch out.

Not bad money for a 5th place, we need to win for it for a downlow race, but our expenses are a third to american standard.
Next time better

Bill, I just watched it on the Emerald Downs race replays. He put considerable effort into that middle move. The only place he looked uncomfortable was on the turn. It was obviously pretty slippy-slidy, with his head cocked to the outside.

Will he get another chance at Emerald Downs or will he go elsewhere for the winter?

I am newly arrived in Seattle and going on Sunday to Emerald Downs for the first time. Figures I get here just as the season is winding down!

Looking at one more start at Emerald, (maybe the Futurity?),
and then probably a layup until spring to let him grow into himself. Welcome to Washington.

Hi

Sharper Edge (Stoney) is entered in the $100,000 added Joe Gottstein Futurity on Saturday 10/15 at 8.5 furlongs. He'll break from PP#9. Tough spot, but he'll give it his all. We'll see how he handles two turns.
