Irish River: Questions

I'm looking for some insights on Irish River as a broodmare sire. In particular:

Is he well regarded as a broodmare sire?
Has there been any success with crossing his daughters on Storm Cat line stallions?
Has linebreeding to Irish River had any success, and
Are there any physical or genetic problems with Irish River/his offspring to be aware of if considering linebreeding or inbreeding to him?

Much thanks for any comments or info that can be offered.

Irish River did pretty well as a broodie sire. I can't speak to the Storm Cat cross, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that sickle hocks and being a bit light-boned could be an issue with both Riverman and Irish River. May tend towards a rather "turfy" type of horse.

I have NEVER seen another stallion that might have been described as even reasonably successful (as a sire) that was as offset and back at the knee as Riverman. He had a HORRIBLE front end (to my way of thinking anyway).

The great producer North of Eden-IRE (by Northfields) has produced three G1 winners thus far (including a champion son and earner in excess of $3mil by Irish River)...and North of Eden's relatively young daughter Paradise River (by Irish River) is now a G1 producer (her son David Junior recently won the G1 Champion Stakes in England).

I'd forgotten about the back at the knee bit, but you're right, FOS, that was a Riverman issue. Probably one more reason why this line has generally been a bit more successful on the weeds than on dirt.

Not sure about the offset part but Danehill is a touch back at the knee--and sires it. Grass is far more forgiving for this flaw than dirt.

I don't know about Irish River in general but he produced Seven Springs, dam of Distant View... and Riverman was one of the sirelines highly recommended by Pete Siegel for Rocking Trick. I have a Distant View daughter in foal to RT now.. I have sought mares with those lines. I made a deal last year with the owner of Dealin Aces (very reduced fee). If you get an Irish River mare, let's talk.

IRISH RIVER (FRA) ch. 1976
Riverman---Irish Star, By Klarion

Irish River produced superior nicks when bred to mares that traced to the sire line of Chaucer.
Irish River was bred to 6 Chaucer sire line mares and produced 5 winners and 1 SW.

Irish River produced inferior nicks when bred to mares that traced to the sire line of Fair Play.
Irish River was bred to 10 Fair Play mares and bred 3 winners.

Irish River produced inferior nicks when bred to mares that traced to the sire line of Teddy.
Irish River was bred to 14 Teddy mares and bred 5 winners.
