Would like to hear opinions on my mares and possible studs

Postby teb » Fri Nov 11, 2005 10:06 pm

I'm in Ireland so have to stick to this country. My first mare is Stonor Lady by French Deputy-Blush With Love by Mt. Livermore currently in foal to Catcher On The Rye for 06. The second is Fraamtastic by Fraam-Fading by Pharly currently in foal to City On A Hill for 06. Am trying to get my choices down so I can book my mares for 06 and thought I'd see what others think. Also you can slam me for my choices this year!
Thanks

Unfortunately I don't know the Irish stallions at all. I can tell you this much though: French Deputy has had 3 SWs as a broodmare sire by Capote, Matty G and Bold Badgett respectively. All have run on dirt. Two of those have been from the Slew line but I think for turf purposes, doubling up on the Northern Dancer through Danzig as you did this year is intriguing.

Sysonby,
Statue of Liberty stands here. He is by Storm Cat out of a Seattle Slew mare. This might be a horse to consider. I will be seeing some of his foals today and able to make a bette opinion. He might be an option though. We don't have too many Slew lines over here. Just Mr. P and Danzig. All you want of them really.

Have you looked at all at the Indian Ridge sons? (I am a fan  ). He crosses well with both the Northern Dancer and Blushing Groom lines.

Definate Article stands for €8,000 at Morristown Lattin Stud, Indian Haven (GB) stands for €6,000 at the Irish National Stud. Both Namid and Compton Place had the first three across the line in the EBF Bosra Sham Fillies' Stakes at Newmarket earlier this year.
Legal Jousting (Indian Ridge X In Anticipation - Sadler's Wells) standing at Kingsgate Stud

Thanks for replying. While Definite Article is a nice stallion he is basically a dual purpose sire and gets good money for horses in the NH world. If I had a proven mare he would be a good choice, but with a new mare, my foal would not be well recieved. I actually really like Compton Place, but shipping a mare and foal to England is out. 10-14 hours on a truck going on a ferry is not my idea of fun for mare and new foal. Never mind if it's really windy and they have to wait for another boat! I think breeding over here for the small person is very difficult. Also if horses don't get good runners in their first couple of years, the stallions get moved to the NH game, and your commercial foal goes down the toilet. NH breeding is a fools game as far as I'm concerned. You will see a lot of NH stallions advertised with filly foal, free return. I have witnessed many people looking at newborn foals here and going " pity it's a filly". Never mind it's healthy! Thanks for taking the time to answer my question and I will look at the others you have mentioned.
