The cost of selling at Keenland

Postby O'Leary » Fri Feb 17, 2006 1:15 pm

This is our first yearling sale and I called, but the info won't be sent out til April 1, but can anyone tell me the fees charged, such as entry fee, book fees ( I heard they had one for that), commission fee, etc.....Thanks.

Last time I checked, it was $500 to put them in the catalog, and $500 to enter the sale. Commission is charged if the horse sells for more than $22K, I believe.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Are both fees payable up front, or is one or the other taken out of the sale price of the horse? And are both due together or do you send the catalog fee in by another deadline?

I think it's $1,000 to enter the sale, payable in 2 installments of $500 each. Then Keeneland charges a 4.5% commission on the sale--with the 1K included in that. Which was what Madelyn was talking about when she said they don't charge a commission below 22K--you've already paid it through your entry fee.

Yeah, the link said $1000 but nothing about installments. The $500 catalog fee, is that part of the $1000 or is it another seperate fee ? It's nice to hear that $1000 is part of the commission. The info for the sales not going out til April 1st.

I don't know what you mean by the catalogue fee. I believe you pay $500 to nominate a horse to the sale. The second $500 is due sometime later (perhaps when the book is printed?) Anyway it's not a separate fee.

The best way to get the right information would be to call Keeneland. They're very nice and helpful on the phone.

I got that from inquiry another time on here. Someone had said it was $500 to entry and $500 to have them placed in the catalog. Any way you slice it it's still $1000 , lol....I'm sure by the time I get my info and my yearling walks thru the ring in Sept, me and the sales staff at Keenland will be on first name basis :wink: :lol:

There will be discouraging times. But a life without horses;
Now that's discouraging.

I'm not sure about the deadline, but the information goes out the first of April.
