Bloodstock Agents

Postby PlaytoWin » Fri Mar 31, 2006 4:52 pm

I could possibly have posted this under sales-but I know this gets more action

We are looking to get "acquanted" with a bloodstock agent and were wondering the following;

A) is there a place to find lists of agents? if so Where?

B) What type of crudentials does one look for in an agent?

C) Why type of background lends itself to a "better" agent?

D) What type of background would you look for?

E) What type of services should you expect from an agent?

any other suggestions that would be helpful will be greatly appreciated

I know there a ton of Spelling errors on this page-sorry

I'll bite on this one, too. How about Texas to buy or sell?

I would get a hold of Kenny McPeek, and ask him for help. He's a great guy, excellent trainer, with a great eye for a horse. Just a thought.

I know of a good one, email me if you'd like his contact info... of course, that doesn't answer your original questions about finding an agent....

Playtowin: Interestingly enough, in the April Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred there was a complete list/with stories on the successful BS Agents along the East Coast. Oddly, Buzz Chace from NJ was not listed but everyone who knows anything about East Coast Racing is aware of his successes.

The article in the Mid-Atlantic TB actually showcased the top SELLING agents. I believe Mr. Chace is more a buyers agent.

I would certainly second ( or third ) the motion for Buzz Chace but the Mid Atlantic thoroughbred magazine, which was mentioned, gives you a few more choices to consider. In addition every year The BloodHorse magazine comes out with " the Source " which lists every possible service / supply you could would ever need from soup to nuts and there's a whole bunch of bloodstock agents in it. One other option might be to talk to a trainer that you'd consider using. Many of them are quite capable and may save you a bundle especially if they know they'll be working with the horse.

One suggestion is to find your trainer first, ask him or her how she aquires the best thoroughbreds to train. Also, may trainers pick themselves, some are better than others. Research. A good trainer that does the picking can sometimes save you money, since they are going to be training the horse anyway, they are likely to cut a deal. Just a thought...
