Joey's Law

Postby circe221 » Mon May 15, 2006 5:24 pm

I am looking for information on my horse whose racing name was Joey's Law.

From what I could find so far, I found that he is out of Sicilian Law and Tasha's Princess. He raced at the Meadowlands, Philly Park and Delaware Park.

I think his owner's name was Joseph C. Flaherty, and he had different trainers, Ralph Riviezzo, Philip Aristone, and Robert Helmetag.

I am mainly looking for any photos of him, I have found one of his sire, Sicilian Law.

Where could I look as a next step in researching my boy?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

:)
Circe

P.S. Joey's Law now goes by the name "Thor", and is thoroughly enjoying his new life as an English Pleasure horse.

He was a durable speedy type, 69 starts and 7 wins, high speed rating of 102, and earned $152K with a 3rd in a stakes race.

Someone here should be able to tell you where he raced, and then you can contact the racetracks where he won. If you can locate the track photographer, you may be able to purchase copies of his win photos.

Wow! Thank you so much Madelyn!
I know he raced at Monmouth Park, Philly Park, and Delaware Park, maybe I could start there?
How does one go about contacting the track photographer?

Thank you again for the information!

Hi, Joey's Law won seven times as follows:

March 22, 2000 at Garden State Park, NJ

April 27, 2000 at Garden state Park, NJ

Dec, 3, 2000 at Philadelphia Park, PA

Dec. 29, 2000 at Philadelphia Park, PA

Nov. 3, 2002 at Philadelphia Park, PA

April 21, 2003 at Philadelphia Park, PA

Sept. 29, 2003 at Philadelphia Park, PA

You should contact Philadelphia Park and try to get in touch with the track photographer there.

Try to get his last win (Sept. 29, 2003) first, as he won by daylight and that picture might look best.

hope this helps.

Thank you so much! I can't believe you are able to find out all of that information!

Ironically, I live about 10 minutes from the site of the old Garden State Park. It was torn down last year. So...I guess Philly Park is my only option now. Do you know how to go about contacting a track photog? Do I just call the main information number and ask?

Interesting that he won mostly in cooler weather, I wonder if he doesn't like the heat...

Thank you so much, again, from the bottom of my heart for all of this help!

Hi, yes, that strategy should yield something... or go to the track's website and see if there is an e-mail for general info, and they should return you contact info for the track photographer.

Your quest should be pretty easy.

I called Philly Park yesterday and spoke with an absolutely wonderful person who should have the photos for me by Saturday!!!
And, on top of that, she knows the guy who owned my horse when he raced. She said that when she sees him again she will tell him about me and how he is doing at his new home.

Thanks so much for all of your help!!!

Thanks for that last update, so few people come around to give the rest a sense of whether the path toward old pictures is a thru street.

This is more testimony to the idea that racing makes it too difficult for pleasure horse owners to find the photos that are out there and beckoning to be purchased.

These days more and more thoroughbreds are being kept away from the bad guys after their race days, and it stands to reason that there will be more pleasure horse owners seeking win photos in the future.

How hard is it to simply match would-be photo purchasers with tracks and dates?

What simple treasures those old win circle photos can be!

I will update again after I go to get the photos. I am so excited!
It is just fascinating to me that these horses had entirely different lives before they retired. The pictures are definitely treasures, and I can't wait to see what he looked like crossing that finish line!

Thanks again for all of your help!!!
