Oklahoma SQ 712 passes!

Postby henthorn » Wed Nov 03, 2004 8:05 am

:D The electorate of Oklahoma turned out in record numbers to vote regarding the multiple important state questions and candidates on the ballot. I am happy to announce that there was about a 60/40 split in favor of authorizing Oklahoma racetracks to develop racinos in our state, with the same authorized games available at the many tribal casinos (about 80+ in the state already). And proceeds from both will be made available for the state's education coffers. Estimated revenue from the gaming is estimated at 71 million dollars the first year, as this is the first time the tribal gaming monies are split with the state.

Magna Entertainment, which owns Remington Park, has plans for venue improvements which have been awaiting passage of the go-ahead measure that allows additional revenue projections for the corporation.
Magna plans to redesign the property to make a state-of-the-art entertainment complex, not just slot machines alone.

The Oklahoma HBPA is the thoroughbred representative for the entire state and its four tracks. Monies from tribal gaming near Tulsa's Fair Meadows will start to be earned immediately to be distributed to all tracks, as that track is owned by the county, while the three tracks authorized for gaming gear up their facility improvements. Remington officials estimate our track's casino will be fully operational by July-September time frame. Full benefits will not be seen until 2006.

Start making plans to get into the Oklahoma breeding program and be searching for properties here. WE'RE EXPECTING YOU. 8)

Rocking e, I imagine you are right about the sale. But the Thomas Sales Co. tends to have a lot of lower-class TB horses that usually sell very poorly, and with poor attendance. At least there might be additional bidders attending, willing to open their checkbooks. Obviously the horses in the sale were entered long before we knew what the vote outcome would be, so I doubt the quality of horses has improved for this particular sale.

Oklahoma is still one of the premier quarter horse breeding states, and the sale will probably see its biggest gains in the QHs and paints sold. The primary QH sales venue in Oklahoma is at Heritage Place in OKC. The next sale they enter for should be a doozy!

Congrats to OK. on the Election day decision. In Calif. our ballot measure failed. It is now time to move some middle of the road stallions from Ky. to OK. Roar, Souvenior Copy that came to Calif. from KY. have made an impact in Calif.

That would be great with us, Louis. We're just all breathing such a sigh of relief, and now can start making plans. I reserved one of my mare's plans for next year until the vote, and I'm sure a lot of others have too. Plus we want new breeding incentives that would help bring better stallions to the state. Maybe this will cause those similar to New York's which seems ideal for owners, breeders, stallion owners, and those who want state-breds by out-of-state studs as well.

Many of our horse farms have been holding off on property improvements and have been considering moves to other states, and now can move forward in our own state. Our horse industry has been treading water for years.

I have a nearly 30 acres horse farm in Davis, OK and I was going to sell it if they did not pass slots. No need to sale now. I plan on breeding all 3 mares I have in addition, I plan purchasing more in foal mares at the mix sales in this year so they can foal in OK.

I am beyond happy....Good job by the OTA and all the people who made this possible in OK...

Big time congratulations! You guys have worked a long time for this.

Can you recommend several breeding farms with good people and strong marketing backgrounds who might be looking to stand a nice stallion? I own one or two I haven't placed yet.

Michael, my list would be very inadequate, but I'm sure the Oklahoma Thoroughbred Association website can lead you in the right direction. The three best-marketed and nicest stallions in the state are at the Oklahoma Equine Lameness Center--In Case, Concern, and Lucky Lionel. They are listed on the stallion directories.

I agree Ok Lameness Center does a good job promoting it's stallions. Mighty Acres is the other one that does aa good job. Michael, who are the stallions that you are looking to place?

Louis says: >>>In Calif. our ballot measure failed.<<<

Very poor marketing on Prop. 68's side. However, perhaps Michael can verify this, my understanding is there will be a legal challenge in the courts (suit already filed) to declare Prop 70 unconstitutional on the grounds that the governor does not have the power to negotiate the terms he did. Arnold appears to be a liberal masquerading as a conservative. :x

Lucky Lionel stands at Diamond G but Oklahoma Equine Hospital
has Concern, In Case and Prospectors Music.

I agree that Oklahoma Equine Hospital does a very good job.

Mike, if you had a stallion to stand in Oklahoma I would start with them. Here is the phone number (405) 288-6460

Michael and HR LLC, now we're all confused.

HR, I knew it wasn't right when I said it, because I couldn't fit in Prospector's Music in my list. You're exactly right.

Michael, Oklahoma Equine Lameness Center==Oklahoma Equine Hospital. The names are interchangeable. They don't seem to have a website.

Diamond G also still stands New Way, I believe.

Rockin H...your very lucky that 712 passed. Over here in Arkansas, we tried to raise the property tax 3 mill's this election. From 25 to 28 to go in the Education Fund. Soundly defeated! Of course, they'll bellyache about the school's having to drop program's because of funding, but they won't give them any money. Bunch of tightwad's!

We've tried to get a lottery on the ballot...good grief, you'd have thought they'd be ask to eat their first young.
