Today's Man O' War lines

Postby Derring » Mon May 29, 2006 7:45 am

Something on another post made me wonder this....

Other than through Intent, what tail-male Man O' War lines are around today?

Holy crap, seeing Man O' War as a foal was unexpected and totally cool. Just look at him and check out at that bearing. He looked like an emperor even then. I tried to link just the photo but it wouldn't let me.

The most prominent descendant I can think of right now that's recent is Tiznow. Well also his full-brother Budroyale for that matter but he's a gelding. Hopefully Tiznow will get himself a good son. Obviously he's already sired the 2yo Champion filly Folklore. Valid Appeal and his son Successful Appeal are two big ones to look at as another recent branch. Valid Appeal also sired stallions like Valid Expectations, Mister Jolie, and Kipper Kelly. The two latter recently passed away. Edit: I just realized with a 'duh' moment that Closing Argument is actually a direct male-line descendant so there ya go.

Other intact male-line descendants (sons of Relaunch who's the big carrier nowadays it looks like) have included Skywalker, Honour and Glory, Slew Gin Fizz, Cee's Tizzy, and Waquoit. Another big-time gelding that lots of people were fans of would be With Anticipation.

Male descendants of Believe It, Smile, Valid Appeal, Relaunch and Known Fact are the big places to look. They're all by In Reality, the main MOW link today.

I'm not going to comment it too much, but personally I think that Cee's Tizzy is very, very good stallion - and not only because of Tiznow... When I see many his foals winning everything from allowances to grade one races, I'm just thinking how wonderful it would be to see what he could do in Kentucky... Maybe there was a chance to make MOW sireline a bit wider and longer...

Sand Ridge a son of Known Fact had his first foals hit the ground this spring and they have been outstanding. Known Fact had much more success through his sons in Europe, but I have been told that Sand Ridge's book this year went from 14 to 33- which is a good size book in Texas.

I am blessed enough to be the owner of one of those first Sandridge foals, a filly. She is the fifth foal from my mare and far and away the best yet. Needless to say, she went back to Sandridge. In my initial selection of this stallion, I was impressed with the sire line, but also his bottom line is very appealing. His dam, Skybox, is by Spend A Buck. I think that he is under rated as a broodmare sire. I really don't think that the Man of War line is going to die out.

All but 4 of the names listed above are from the Intent/Intentionally line. The 4 that are not from Intent:

Two Davids (Olden Times)

Pok Ta Pok (Full pocket  Olden Times)

Broadway's Top Gun (Full Pocket  Olden Times)

BG's Drone (Full Choke  Full Pocket  Olden Times)

Just want to make sure I have this straight......No Tail male Man O' War lines left except through War Relic...and through War Relic we only have Intent and Olden Times.
All but the above 4 are through Intent/Intentionally.

Does anyone have anything to add?

Well via poking around, I discovered we have us a line going (hmm somehow strong is the wrong word but you get what I mean) in New Zealand.

Bismark through Vice Regal is one I've found and funnily enough we're ending up with a lot of Man O' War direct descendants who're grey. Kinda neat for those grey fans out there. It's not US so probably not entirely the same thing but any of our Aussie, Kiwi folks can get their mitts on a tail-mail MOW right this very minute.

Here's a pedigree complete with pic of the stud All Glory, by Vice Regal. http://www.pedigreequery.com/all+glory

I own and currently stand DIGNITAS-he is from the last crop of In Reality and was also the highest selling yearling from In Reality's last crop."DIGGYS" a multiple Grade 2 SW of $620,000 - Won The Illinois Derby and The Michigan Mile-been an honest racehorse sire-$40,000 average earnings per starter-he's out of a mare by the name of David's Tobin by Tobin Bronze(she is also the 3rd dam of Point Given).

I've stood a lot of stallions over the years and decided to keep this one and it's not because of racing ability-his foals have an intelligence to them that if they don't run you can do something else with them.I have a 4 year old here now that we are roping off of and team penning with. He's done OK on siring racehorses but he went thru the Vinery cycle where he got stuck off in Utah and I ended up with him in 2000.They run short, they run long, most are a notch below stakes horses-honest allowance horses. But they seem to consistently earn checks for their owners and pay their way so to speak. At the time I ended up with him and the reason I ended up with him was because his AEI was higher than his dam's index.

There's a pic of him on here and I try to keep updated on his progeny lists on here but have been swamped with clients, breeding and foaling the last 5 months and am just getting some time to catch up.Oh,and did I also say he has a pedigree free of Mr.Prospector-Raise A Native,Northern Dancer,Seattle Slew,Damascus.Worked well on Grandaughters of Nijinsky II,Northern Dancer,Seattle Slew,Damascus and Never Bend.

Just my tidbit on a link left out there for Man O' War-altho not related to the OP's original post on other than the In Reality link.

Sincerely-Jeff

In a similar vein, what Godolphin Arabian Lines are still active that don't descend through Man O'War?

I'm Guessing Baynoun may have a few sons in South America that are sires. Sanpit may have kept this line going, but unfortunately he died too young.

Are there any sons of Sassafras, and his son Saros that are still breeding on?

Regards, Shergar
