Meg,

nice colt on paper. I dont think you have to worry about someone sticking around to bid on him. Crafty's are well thought of and your mare is very nice too. You will be celebrating after the hammer falls.

I'm going the 1st 2 days, just for fun. Can't wait to see the Mineshaft babies! Haven't even had a chance to look at the catalog yet.

I saw Song Cat, his half sis by Unbridled's Song, sell last summer at Saratoga.. I won't miss this one. Nice position half way throught the second part of book two.

I saw Razzi Cat herself last winter.

The Mineshaft-Prom Knight looked nice in January. Frankly, I was very surprised to see her in this sale. She's definitely at the top of my list to look at, as I'm very curious to see how she's grown up.

Back to Meg,

3300 is not a bad place to be. The buyers will have rolled over from the first days, and you will have new people on the grounds looking for mid-priced horses. I think that you will be fine. Best of luck

I may be entirely wrong on this, I have only been attending the sales for a couple of years. This sale seems to have its "royalty" yearlings in the first week. They offer buffet lunch in the Phoenix Room Sept 9-17. The atmosphere is festive and the crowd can get quite dressy. The second week seems rather more nitty gritty, and the "big" buyers have usually gone home. There may be intangibles beyond pedigree that might get a yearling into the first week of the sale, but the "well thought of" sires have at least some yearlings in the first week, and the second week is pockmarked with OUTS and RNAS.

keeneland sale

Postby clh » Tue Sep 05, 2006 8:24 pm

The way that Keeneland approaches their sales book (as explained to me by others "in the know" ) is that they take stud fees first and work down from there. Conformation, etc... is also taken into consideration because if you will notice on the last few days of the sale there are some pretty pricey stud fees (again explained to me that the consignor knew they weren't quality to match their matings and said to put them in the back of the sale). If your consignor thinks you have a "star" he can make his plea to Keeneland and if they agree, your foal/weanling/mare can be moved up in the book(s) The first two or three days are pretty "select" and then the next two days are still high dollar stud fees for the most part. They do have the "big lunch room opened on those days - food is great but a little pricey) and the Keeneland BBQ is usually the Sunday night before the first day of sale on Monday.

Madeline you noted that it was "dressy" - yep, I usually wear my "good jeans" when I go (ha). So pick out a decent pair of jeans and let's get together to go make fun of the fools that paid $500,000 for a stud fee (and then cry in our beer, tea, pepsi when they sell for $9 million.
Would love to meet up with some folks going down for the sale - would be nice to put faces with some of the names. Anyone interested in scheduling dates and times let me know.

Should most of the horses from books 1 and 2 be on the grounds this weekend, or just book 1?

Let's meet up

Postby klbash2000 » Thu Sep 07, 2006 10:33 am

We need to figure out a way to meet up randomly. You know, wear something unique or periodically hang out at a certain spot to check for others. I can't think of what to wear so maybe by the pedigree research desk? I don't know when I'll be able to be there but I would love to meet up.
