Name horses with darker head you have seen

Postby Jorge » Sun Sep 10, 2006 6:01 pm

I would really appreciate to identify horses with darker head (than the rest of their body) you have seen. Someone mentioned to me a horse named CHEERS COLONY but the case is still under study. Have you seen other similar cases?

slightly off topic from what you meant, but I have noticed Funny cide has a darker eye area than the rest of his face. Halps me recognize him sans silks!

Dear Toccet02,

Your point point is not necessarily slightly off topic. Hmmm, interesting head start. Thank you so much for the comment.

OK... I'm curious! :D Are you searching for possible roan carriers? I know most roans have a darker, solid head as compared to their body color...

I just watched an RFD-TV "Horse Babies" show on Rocky Mountain horses. The farm is Mountain Magic Ranch and one of their signature stallions is a gorgeous blue roan. Another is a rich chestnut with a flaxen mane & tail (red chocolate, as they call it). I have never seen such beautiful colors—every color of the equine rainbow. I especially love the dark chocolate color with the flaxen mane & tail.

If you're curious, their site is: http://www.gaitedmtnhorses.com/
Good eye candy! :D

Temperence is a roan. I believe she is Irish by Orpen. Bay roan.

OOoh, just remembered this girl, who is on the CANTER NE site:
It isn't a grainy photo, she has roaning in her coat and a darker head...

Jorge

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for but ... I have a dark bay/brown TB mare (Easy Greasy) which shows an unusual bay pattern, She is very dark in the head and neck and has dark "blanket" across her shoulders and hip. Her midsection is somewhat lighter brown thus the bay designation. Her one daughter (by The Last Captive AQHA) is a bay with the same blanket pattern and a dorsal stripe. The mother may also have the dorsal stripe.

The Last Captive is a QH/TB cross with extensive ties to old TB lines.

Regards

Chuck

I will send a picture to you via email since I don't know how to post a picture here.

roaning

Jorge:

We have a weanling filly, Private Terms ex Techno Vision. She has roaning but is otherwise a dark brown. We've wondered about the source of the roaning. She is basically 3x4 Damascus and the equivalent of 3x4 Bold Ruler. Any thoughts?

Dear Friends,

Let me try to answer both queries.
Yes Sword Dancer has demonstrated to possess sabino influences. The same goes for Easy Goer. Don't count on Bold Ruler for sabino-ness but since he appears on so many pedigrees people may wrongly consider him a sabino ---which is a wrong premise. Don't forget that Northern Dancer and Hail To Reason are excellent sabino sources.

Jorge,

Did you pick up Fade? If so, I am so keenly jealous! :D
