We've oohed and aahed over the top stallions' performance in the sales ring but now that we are nearing the end of the Keeneland sale, have there been any surprises among the low-end (translation: affordable) stallions?
I think Flatter has done nicely for a $5,000 stud fee.

I just went out to see Flatter this past week while at the sales. Nice horse, and yes, he did well. They implied that he would stay at 5k for 2007. Along the same lines, Jump Start had a bunch of nice ones at KEE that we looked at. Consistently solid animals.
I don't know whether you can get to FL, but I have seen a bunch of Repents this year and have walked away impressed. Saw another one yesterday that looked good and sold well. Think he is around 4 or 5.

The Officers sold well
As of yesterday when I ran the results, of the 29 sold, only 4 were less than 2 times his stud fee. The 29 averaged $85K which is over 5 times his stud fee. I guess we'll see that rise next year!
officer, jump start and zavata
Since I have an Officer weanling colt in the Ocala sale next month, I was really happy with how his yearlings sold, obviously. The prices do go up when a stallion's runners are really winning big, which is what I was hoping for! Those yearlings were bred on a $12,500 stud fee, though he jumped to $15k this year. So here's a question for those of you in Kentucky who seem to hear early rumors -- any news about what they might up his stud fee to?
I was also interested in what was said about the Jump Start yearlings. I bred to him once -- he's big and gorgeous -- and might go back to him. I thought his two-year-olds might run a bit better, though they're doing ok.
For those of you at the sale, what did you think of the Zavata yearlings? Some sold well, some didn't -- any rhyme or reason from what you could tell, or just the usual beauty contest issue?
