14yo Cumberland Gap Retired to CANTER-Oh

Postby Secretariat73 » Wed Oct 04, 2006 2:41 pm

With all of the bad news lately, I thought I'd share this good news with everyone... :)

We are delighted to report that 14-year-old Cumberland Gap (Allen's Prospect - Never Easy by Nijinsky 2) has been donated and retired to CANTER-Ohio. We will work diligently to find this grand old warrior a good home.

Gap broke his maiden on his first start (13My94PIM). He has raced every year for the last 12 years! He last finished in the money 29 Ap 06 at Thistledown, finishing 3rd. His last start was July '06. His record: 161 starts, 34 wins, 26 place, 17 show and earnings of $324,375.

Kudos and thanks to owner Mark Yagour and trainer Robin Schuster!!!!

Wow, that is quite the accomplishment! Have y'all let Country Life Farm know? They seem to like to keep track of the prognency of their stallions and Allens Prospect was much beloved.

It would be a great way for them to honor Allen's Prospect by taking care of one of his bravest and most durable warriors. Gosh...might even start a fashion trend. Sure hope they do!

What a remarkable, durable horse! A 12-year career is no small thing in a business where many don't make it 12 months or even 12 days. I sure hope someone makes his future years comfortable and more relaxed ones. This guy has sure put in his time.

Blessings,

Yes, we e-mailed Josh last Friday and are waiting to hear. If anybody has contact with him, please feel free to pass the word along.

Bravo.. if he is entire it might be best to consider gelding him before searching for a home. Durable and good and honest a horse as he was, he deserves a good retirement and stallions are VERY hard to place, usually...
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Thanks, Madelyn. FYI Gap is gelded so that's not an issue. CANTER almost always gelds the few stallions we get.

TBLady: Thanks! Will forward your post to Nancy.

Have you heard anything from Country Life yet? I know they bought back Perfect Moon, Malibu Moon's first stakes winner and he's up on the farm enjoying life. I have a pic of him, but I don't know how to include it in the message here. I saw him in March of this year when he just got there. He was pacing the fence, very anxious, but since then he was turned out with other horses and doing well. A very happy retirement for him, that's for sure!

An update:

We did talk to Michael at Country Life this week. He was very nice and he’s checking to see if any of his contacts want to help in his retirement. He followed Cumberland Gap and was glad to hear he is safe. :)

Hi all

You can go to http://thoroughbredchampions.com/forum/index.php?topic=7982.0 for an update on Gap and his new home with a photo. Darlene Robinette, VP of the Exceller fund, adopted him. Yeah, Darlene! :D
