HELP me list all Active Byerly Turk Stallions

Postby jellac » Sat Nov 25, 2006 2:46 pm

I was thinking honoring INDIAN RIDGE, and others of the Byerly Turk sire line, by listing all those stallions of this lineage still at stud, there whereabouts/contact if known and so forth - I think it would be most helpful to do so by the stallions' sire line -

I. Sons of INDIAN RIDGE by AHONOORA by LORENZZACIO -
1) Arawak'96 Per this db at stud 2001??
2) Bens Ridge - this db shows progeny as recent as 2003??
3) Cameron'94 - at stud in Italy??
4) COMPTON PLACE'94 - Sire - GB
5) DEFINITE ARTICLE'92 - produced Champion VINNIE ROE, still active?
6) DOMEDRIVER - GB -
7) Erubody'95 at stud in Italy ?
8) Final Row - Stakes Placed? at stud in Texas, first foals to arrive '07?
9) Handsome Ridge'94 - at stud in Italy '01"
10) Indian Rocket(GB)'94 - at stud in France?
11) Kierkegaard '93 - at stud in Italy?
12) Legal Jousting - at stud, Kingsgate Stud, Ontario, CANADA-first foals will be 2YOs of '07?
13) Luna Ridge (FR) '97 - at stud in Spain, has produced winners??
14) Munir II '98 - Retired to stud: France, sent to Italy '05???
15) Namid '96 - stands at Rathbarry Stud??
16) Nicobar'97 - at stud in France.
17) Tumbleweed Ridge '93 - at stud GB.

OK....that was for starters, just focusing on Indian Ridge...IF you know of an Indian Ridge son at stud that I've missed, or more detailed contact information, highlights for any listed please post below. Also feel free to start off with a listing of any other 'Byerly Turk" sire line stud still active, who's own sire is no longer active - i.e. list him under the active sire rather than as a new list. Ultimately I'll publish as 'complete' a listing as we're collectively able to put together both here and at my "Ambiorix/Tourbillion" community. Thanks in advance!

OK - This entry is of a deceased sire but clearly - from his pedigree - the result of a deliberate effort to inbreed to the Byerly Turk -

III. Sons of Saint Cyrien by Luthier at stud -
A. L'Africain Bleu - deceased in '03 after producing one small crop - had his first 2YO, first winner at Zia Park in Sapello Riverman 11/06. (NOTE: Both L'Africain Bleu, his son Sapello Riverman are examples of repeated inbreeding to B.T. bloodlines via sire and dam influences. )

B. L'Epervier Bleu - G-1, MSW - Died 2002 while covering a mare. Sire of winners. Does anyone know of any entire male offspring of this Sire that may be at stud???

Some info from Czech Republic (which means that these sires really aren't going to save this line):

BAM II; Montcontour - Berta, Effekt. Russian-bred. Neither popular, nor good sire. But Montcontour (by Luthier) was quite good sire, maybe other sons?

DRAK; Korok - Dafne, Gaston. Son of steeplechasing legend Korok out of great steeplechasing mare. Has some nice horses, but he's almost not used as flat sire. Traces to Byerley Turk through line Korok - Astyanax (also was Czech stallion) - Djebel - Tourbillon line.

SCATER; Dixieland - Scatola, Skunks. Hopeful hurdler, who really surprised with very good flat runners from only mediocre mares. Becomes quite popular. Traces to BT via Dixieland - Conor Pass - Tiepolo - Tiepoletto - Tornado - Tourbillon. Dixieland was famous Polish horse, so maybe another sons?

So these are the relics of one great bloodline in the heart of Central European region.
Avatar: This wonderful horse is my big love: Czech-bred horse Heretic, son of fantastic sire Rainbows for Life out of great dam Hairy Dream.

5. Monte Donacion - possibally still at stud in Brazil?????

According the The Argentinian Stud book, Monte Donacion covered 5 mares in 2005, with two live foals born this year. Another Beyerly Turk Line hanging on.

Another Beyerly Turk line that I'm sure is still active would go through Practicante. He was quite an influential sire in Argentina in the 70's. I know he had at least 4 sons, (Braseante, Especulante, Hidalgante, And Vacilante) go to stud in Brazil.

Especulante has a son, Emperor of Tijucas that has a few foals listed on this database, (2001/02) foals.

One of these days I need to see if Brazil has their stud book online.

All the Best, Shergar

Brazil's stud book is online and there is an English version. Addy is http://www.brazilianstudbook.com.br/

So far I have found A son of Braseante, Parelheiro) that appears to be active at stud in Brazil. He had 4 named foals in 2005!

If there is one, I'm sure there are others.

The search goes on.

Regards, Shergar

As we have already discussed, Roi Herode is hanging on in sport horses through the Bonne Nuit line which includes Triple Twist at stud in Ohio and Last News who is standing in Ireland. There easily could be some more with digging.

hi Jellac,
Definite Article is still active, standing at Morristown Lattin Stud (IRE)
Stud fee: € 8,000.00
Munir: standing at the Allevamento di Besnate (ITY)
Stud fee: € 4,500.00
Namid: standing at Rathbarry for € 10.000.
With respect, in your list you mentioned Bens Ridge, would that be Ridgewood Ben, full brother to Ridgewood Pearl?
Nice subject and Indian Ridge was one of my favorites. Regards, Erin

Hello and THANKS!!! to everyone who is responding with many welcome updates and new Byerly Turk stallions, sires not previously known to me. Truely, this has been a wonderful response and very educational for me. I am compiling a 'master list' of this information plus the results of some followup research I've done. It will be the "New & Improved Current Byerly Turk" sireline list. This will include your updates and new entries - I plan to publish it here between Christmas and the New Year's (while I'm ostensibally on vacation), so if you have more information or learn of a new B.T. sire/stallion please continue to post or PM me with the information.

Many many thanks again.....jellac

I am not sure if he is still active in Japan, but Arcangues should definetely be listed. It does seem that he got lost in the shuffle very quickly.
