I prayed yesterday that he wouldn't suffer and I guess this was needed to make that prayer be answered. This great boy will be missed. I'm picturing him running in Horse Heaven will all the other great ones.

Yeah, after that last report it was just a matter of time. They did all they could. He fought like a champ through the entire ordeal.

Tough to lose one like that

I applaud the efforts of Dr Richardson, the Jacksons, and everyone close to the horse. It was a hell of a go, and Barbaro, he was a hell of a horse. Not many would have made it this long, he really had the heart of a champion on and off the track.

His Derby win will not soon be forgotten-very powerful. It's unfortunate he couldn't dodge the laminitis in the off leg. That really put him in peril.

How frustrating that even with our 21st century medicine, he couldn't be saved.

RIP, handsome boy.

What a terrible shame, to go this far and still have this be the outcome... :(

It's just so tragic. He came so far, but it wasn't meant to be. I'm glad his owners did everything they could for him, but knew when it was time.

RIP Barbaro

I'm sure it's been an emotional roller coaster for those close to him at the vet school and for his owner/trainer personnel. Now they can all get some peace, and move forward.

Barbaro's certainly been a willing patient and a challenge (head-scratcher) for veterinary medicine. The duration and multitude of problems he's faced have helped further veterinary research in many ways, and of course the donations and free publicity have boosted New Bolton Center immeasurably.

God's ways are not our ways. :( :? :o

The world was fortunate to have the chance to experience and express its love and admiration for Barbaro.

Barbaro showed us what a true CHAMPION he was. He exemplified the spirit, heart and something so special that we all look for in a champion. The Jacksons, as owners, exemplified the very best that racing could ever hope to be.

Barbaro earned the Triple Crown Championship of life, IMO. What a handsome, magnificent equine specimen he was...

Soar free with the angels Barbaro...you earned your place among them.
