Owner Walsh dreamt the night before that Marster had broken a leg during exercise, and pleaded with trainer McDaniel to scratch the gelding. McDaniel refused.
As the odds-on favorite, Marster broke his left hind leg during the Ingleside H. at Oakland on May 20, 1908, and had to be destroyed.
