The General Stud Book states that the dam of [Bolton] Sweepstakes is Sister to Old Coquette (by Basto). However, a pedigree certificate in the Rockingham collection says that Sweepstakes dam was "a White mare of Mr. Snells, bred by Champion Dimmock, and got by Mr. Gase's Grey Stallion, and out of a mare Sister to the Dam of Brisk [by Lister Turk]". This is confirmed by a 1749-1750 advertisement in the York Courant
