She appears in the GSB as grandam of the Farmer Mare, which has eight foals listed in the GSB, all of them credited as bred by George Montagu, 1st Earl of Halifax, nephew of Charles Montagu, Chancellor of the Exchequer, a racing fan and breeder
Nothing is known of the Spanker Mare's origins or location
The family is still extant, particularly in Australasia, the best horses the family has produced including Camarine (1832 Ascot Gold Cup), Pero Gomez (1869 St Leger), Enthusiast (1889 2000 Guineas),
Ragotsky (1893 Prix du Jockey Club), Semendria (1900 French 1000 Guineas and Oaks), Vigil (1923 Preakness Stakes), Aquatinte (1925 Prix de Diane), Adam's Apple (1927 2000 Guineas), Biribi (1926 Prix Royal-Oak, Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe), the great Brantôme (1934 French 2000 Guineas, St Leger, Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe), Alsab (1942 Preakness Stakes) and many other worldwide classic winners
