| Owner: 1) Mr. Dyer 2) Sir Walter Rochley [Wrottesley], 3rd Baronet Breeder: Englebert Leedes
The history of Dyer's Dimple is very confusing and inconsistent. A Dimple [stated to be later known as Dyer's Dimple] supposedly by Leedes Arabian runs at York between 1715 and 1717; so would have been foaled 1709c. This would mean that Leedes Arabian (1678c) was 30 when siring Dimple, not at all likely
Additionally, Dyer's Dimple has progeny born between about 1700 to 1722, impossible for the horse which ran at York
Therefore there were almost certainly two [or more] horses called Dimple, with the later, York runner, wrongly attributed as Dyer's. The true Dyer's Dimple, this horse, would have been foaled 1695c
Sire of Sophonisba (1722 King's Plate [mares] Hambleton, 1723 King's Plates York, Newmarket); and of an unnamed mare which is 4th dam of Tommy (1779 St Leger) and 5th dam of Symmetry (1798 St Leger) and Theophania (1803 Oaks)
