Marlon-possible buckskin?
Has Marlon been mentioned before? I was researching my Holsteiner mares pedigree and came across him.

I didn't look at all the links, but it says Marlon has some holsteiner foals that are dilute

As far as is known, the only dilutes that Marlon sired came from 2 related Holsteiner mares. I think xfactor looked up a number of his get on the sporthorse database and couldn't find any evidence that Marlon sired any other dilutes from other unrelated mares.

I did look into Marlon, and am pretty sure that he was a dilute carrier. There are only a few registered dilute offspring, but the registry was very, very cleat that they wanted only very dark horses. So there was incentive to keep the dilutes under cover, or out of sight. Also given that there is strong selection pressure for dark shades, sooty is probably present which would mask the dilute gene.
All of this is one one the threads--lots of information about the warmblood registries, and how they differ from the TB ones.

I guess I misunderstood your conclusion. Sorry.

I actually started, after looking at the numbers of offspring, thinking the dilute had to come in from the mare. However got enough information to change my conclusion. So depending on where you stopped reading the thread it might have looked like Marlon wasn't the carrier.
Marlon himself doesn't look like any kind of dilute. Just shows how the dilute in TB',s can hide.

Compared to my buckskin tb mare I had, the shading on the face makes him look buckskin. Marlon also had a light spot on his gaskin. Just from my experience the buckskins shading is different then a brown or bay.
