11 May 1698 - beaten 500 guineas match Newmarket versus His Majesty's [King William III] Stiff Dick, who carries a featherweight compared to 9 stone by Careless (this was Careless' only career defeat); April 1699 - won £1,900 match Newmarket versus an unknown opponent owned by the Duke of Devonshire
Contemporary accounts record that eventually he "ceased to run at Newmarket merely for lack of competition".
When he was 14 years old Lord Wharton refused an offer of £700 for Careless and presented him to his breeder Edward Leedes. Careless stood at Leedes' stud in Yorkshire.
Sire of Betty Leedes, dam of Flying Childers (outstanding racehorse and Champion Sire 1730 and 1736) and Bartlet's Childers (Champion Sire 1742); an unnamed mare which is grandam of Vixen (1742 King's Plate [mares] Hambleton, 1743 King's Plate [mares] Newmarket); and an unnamed mare which is dam of Hobgoblin (good class winner between 1729 and 1732)
