| Foundation Mare Family 18
This mare, which does not appear in the GSB, is generally attributed as a daughter of Darcy's Woodcock. However, this mare was foaled 1695c, too early to be consistent or credible with the remainder of his progeny. There are a number of horses named Woodcock in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, and this mare was probably sired by an earlier horse [Old] Woodcock, matching her appellation, not Darcy's Woodcock
Dam of a daughter by [Curwen's Old] Spot, through which the maternal line of the family continues
High class winners in the family, which is still extant, include the immensely important sire Waxy (1793 Derby), Oriana (1810 Oaks), Smolensko (1813 2000 Guineas, Derby), St Francis (1840 Ascot Gold Cup), Ellington (1856 Derby), Formosa (1868 2000 Guineas (d.h.), 1000 Guineas, Oaks, St Leger), April the Fifth (1932 Derby) and High Schemes (1983 Coaching Club American Oaks)
