| Foundation Mare Family 28 Dam of Coppin Mare (by Selaby Turk) through which the maternal line of the family continues This family was developed at the Grimsthorpe, Lincolnshire, stud of Robert Bertie, fourth Earl of Lindsey (1701), Marquis of Lindsey (1706) and first Duke of Ancaster (1716), and his son, Peregrine Bertie, the second Duke. The latter's stud book (1719-1737), rediscovered in the 1930s shows that the Family 28 GSB pedigree for Miss Romp (1737) is incorrect, the Ancaster stud book showing her to be a descendant of the Oldfield Mare (Family 14).
Research by Highflyer has identified that her daughter Selaby Turk Mare may be a full sister to the Coppin Mare in the GSB This suggests that Family 2 and Family 28 are related, that Selaby Turk Mare appearing in Family 2, and the Coppin Mare in Family 28
