A mare named Mary Grey established an American maternal line of Family 2 that survived until the 1950s, although uncertainty surrounds her pedigree. One researcher, Skinner in 1832, proposed that Mary Grey was a daughter of Roundhead out of Ringbone. This was adopted by Wallace for his original ASB, and Bruce for the American Stud Book in 1873, well over one hundred and thirty years after her birth.
